WoW Forever Druid Guide: Balance, Feral, & Resto Changes
Druid's four jobs get distinct improvements: Balance links Wrath and Starfire, Cat gains energy and burst tools, Bear gets stronger multi-target pressure, and Restoration gains Wild Growth. Form restrictions, party buffs and separate tanking gear still shape when you can change roles.
What changes for Druid?
Balance gets a reason to mix Wrath and Starfire instead of leaning on Classic's repeated Starfire casts. Cat gains Tiger's Fury energy and a crit-focused Berserk; Bear gets Mangle cleave plus dodge-based rage; Restoration gains faster instant-heal sequencing and party-wide periodic healing. Cat and Bear share a tree, but tanking points and survival gear compete with Cat damage. Moonkin Aura and Leader of the Pack are exclusive, so spread the Druids between parties when that improves crit coverage. A Bear can supply the aura while tanking.

The biggest changes from Classic
- Wrath prepares faster Starfires
Eclipse makes Wrath reduce the cast time of your next two Starfires, storing up to four charges for 15 seconds. Balance of Nature also rewards switching between Nature and Arcane spells. Wrath supplies the cast-time reduction directly; it does not require a critical strike.
- Feral gains active burst
King of the Jungle makes Tiger's Fury grant energy. Berserk removes Mangle's cooldown, lets it strike up to three targets and adds 100% critical chance to combo-point generators. Cat and Bear use different parts of that cooldown, so its best timing depends on your current job.
- Wild Growth heals a party
Wild Growth heals its target and that target's party over seven seconds, delivering more healing early and less near the end. Gift of the Earthmother shortens its GCD alongside Rejuvenation and Swiftmend. Choose a target whose damaged party members are close enough to receive the heal.
Balance Druid
Ranged DPS
Balance gains mana support, cross-school incentives and a broader party aura. Its casting plan revolves around Wrath preparing Starfire, while movement and target lifespan decide how much periodic damage pays off.
Build your talentsEclipse runs from Wrath to Starfire
Classic raid Balance usually leaned on Starfire, with mana costs and limited debuff slots discouraging its other damage spells. Forever's Eclipse gives Wrath a setup role: Rank 1 reduces the cast time of your next two Starfires by 0.17 seconds, stores up to four charges and lasts 15 seconds. Cast with enough stationary time left to spend the faster Starfires before the effect expires.
Balance of Nature increases your next Arcane damage spell after a Nature cast, and your next Nature damage spell after an Arcane cast, within ten seconds. Weigh that school-switch bonus against Eclipse charges, target health and movement rather than alternating after every cast. Improved Wrath cuts Wrath's mana cost as well as its cast time, while Moonglow reduces spell costs more broadly.
Periodic crits and Nature's Grace
Moonfire and Insect Swarm supply damage while you move or cast something else. Nature's Splendor extends both, while Genesis increases periodic damage and healing. Apply them where enough ticks will land and let the existing duration run before refreshing. Improved Moonfire increases its damage and critical chance, so crit supports the periodic portion as well as its initial hit. Keep them on durable targets before repositioning, but do not spend several GCDs spreading them to adds that will die before the ticks repay the setup.
Nature's Grace explicitly triggers from non-periodic spell crits. It increases spellcasting speed and reduces the GCD by 10% for three seconds. Classic instead reduced the next spell's cast time by half a second. Your DoT crits do not activate this version, so maintain direct-cast uptime rather than expecting a field of periodic effects to supply constant haste.
Moonkin utility and casting space
Moonkin Form gives nearby party members 3% critical chance within 45 yards, exclusive with Leader of the Pack. Classic Moonkin supplied spell crit within 30 yards; Forever's unified crit reaches a mixed party more naturally. The form also increases armor contribution from items by 360%, but prevents healing spells. If the healer needs help, leave form before attempting the heal and accept the lost damage time.
Overgrowth increases how many targets you can affect with Entangling Roots, while Improved Entangling Roots raises root damage and the damage victims can take without breaking it. Mark the rooted enemies and keep splash damage away from them; the higher damage threshold still allows roots to break. Nature's Reach adds offensive range and hit for all spells and attacks, making reliable control part of the same investment as damage.
Cat Druid
Melee DPS
Cat gains direct energy support and a burst window built around combo-point generators. Bleeding targets improve your melee abilities, while Shred still rewards access to the target's back.
Build your talentsTiger's Fury and the new Furor
Classic Cat spent mana to powershift: leave Cat near empty energy, return for Furor's flat 40 energy at rank five, then fit Shreds between energy ticks. Wolfshead Helm added another 20 energy on entry. Classic Tiger's Fury cost energy for a short damage bonus rather than replenishing the bar.
Forever's King of the Jungle makes Tiger's Fury instantly grant energy; Rank 1 grants 20. Spend enough energy to receive the gain and use it when you can follow with attacks. Ferocity and Shredding Attacks separately reduce the costs of their named abilities.
Furor now returns a percentage of the energy from your last Cat form plus energy for time spent outside Bear, Cat and Dire Bear, with a rank-specific maximum. At rank five it returns 100% of that energy plus ten per second spent outside those forms, capped at 100. An immediate out-and-back shift from an empty bar no longer supplies the talent's old flat 40-energy refill.
Bleeds, generators and Berserk
Rend and Tear increases melee ability damage against bleeding targets. That gives maintaining a bleed a purpose beyond its own ticks when the target will survive long enough for follow-up attacks. Savage Fury improves its listed attacks, including Rake and Shred, while Predatory Instincts increases the critical strike damage bonus of melee abilities. Bleeds can also crit, giving crit gear value while you spend energy on generators or move out for a mechanic. Let useful bleed ticks continue instead of refreshing early, but do not buy a long bleed on an add that needs immediate finishing damage.
Berserk adds 100% critical chance to combo-point-generating abilities for 15 seconds. Primal Fury can add another combo point from non-periodic critical generators, so watch your points carefully during that window. Spend them before another generator wastes the gain. Periodic bleed crits are not extra Primal Fury combo points: the talent expressly requires a non-periodic critical strike from an ability that generates them.
Cat charge, positioning and utility
Stay behind your target for Shred when the encounter allows it, and move with the tank rather than cutting through the front of a dangerous enemy. Plan energy and combo-point spending around the time you can stay in melee. Cat's Berserk payoff is critical combo-point generators; Mangle and its Berserk cleave belong to Bear and Dire Bear, not your Cat attack sequence.
Feral Charge provides a Cat leap behind an enemy with a three-second daze, distinct from its interrupting charge. Use the Cat movement tool to regain uptime and positioning, not as a substitute for an interrupt. Feral Swiftness also helps you reach the next target. When you leave Cat to assist the group, preserve enough mana to return. Furor can recover energy during time outside those forms, but you still give up melee swings and attack GCDs while helping.
Bear Druid
Tank
Bear gains Mangle cleave, dodge-driven rage and armor from defense skill. It still needs a tanking setup with enough health and mitigation for the incoming damage, separate from Cat's offensive choices.
Build your talentsMangle cleave and pull control
Mangle requires Bear or Dire Bear Form and costs 20 Rage. Berserk removes its cooldown and allows it to strike up to three targets for 15 seconds. Keep enough rage to use that window; removing the cooldown does not remove the cost. For Bear, that is the central multi-target benefit; the combo-point-generator crit clause belongs to Cat's resource game. Plan Berserk around a dangerous pack or add wave rather than spending it on the final enemy of an easy pull. It also clears fear and grants fear immunity for its duration, giving timing a defensive purpose.
Feral Instinct raises Swipe damage and Savage Fury includes Swipe and Maul. Spread attention across the enemies the group is actually damaging, and keep controlled targets out of your cleave. Use the opening cleave to establish threat before damage dealers commit their cooldowns, then watch enemies outside Mangle's three-target coverage.
Dodge, armor and defense skill
Natural Reaction adds dodge and a chance to gain rage when you dodge. Primal Fury supplies a separate rage chance from Bear critical strikes. Both help your resource flow, but neither promises rage exactly when an emergency button is needed. Keep enough available for the next required action rather than spending as if every dodge or crit will pay you back.
Classic Bears relied on armor, stamina and dodge, with defense helping reduce incoming crits; Classic Thick Hide increased armor from items. Forever instead grants additional base armor per level and for defense skill beyond five times your level while in Bear, Cat, Dire Bear or Moonkin Form, then allows form multipliers to increase it. That adds mitigation value to defense, not a talent-based guarantee of crit immunity. Compare a defense item's added armor with the stamina and armor on the alternative. Heart of the Wild increases Bear stamina, so compare the full survival tradeoff, including the kind of incoming damage. Armor does not solve a spell-damage spike.
Tank utility without leaving a gap
Feral Charge's interrupting charge immobilizes the enemy and interrupts its current spell for four seconds. Save it for a dangerous caster or an enemy you genuinely need to reach. Brutal Impact improves Bash's stun duration and reduces its cooldown, giving another control option where the target is susceptible. These tools are strongest when coordinated rather than spent together on a harmless cast.
Leader of the Pack supplies party crit while you remain in a Feral form, including Bear. That means a tank can cover the same aura a Cat would bring. Your ability to become a healer or damage dealer remains useful between tank assignments, but leaving Bear while responsible for an active boss abandons its defenses. Arrange a tank handoff before shifting to heal or deal Cat damage.
Restoration Druid
Healer
Restoration adds party-wide Wild Growth and shorter GCDs on key instant heals to its direct heals and HoTs. Pre-existing Rejuvenation or Regrowth lets Swiftmend answer a sudden health drop without a setup cast.
Build your talentsWild Growth follows the target's party
Wild Growth heals the target and their party over seven seconds, with party members required to be within 43 yards of the target. Healing is stronger early and slows toward the end. Pick a target in the damaged party with useful coverage, not merely the lowest health bar in the entire raid. It follows that party rather than selecting the most injured players across the raid.
Gift of the Earthmother reduces the GCD on Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and Wild Growth by half a second. That lets you follow one instant heal with the next sooner, which is valuable during distributed damage or movement. The shorter GCD helps you reach the next injured player sooner, though repeated instant heals will spend mana faster.
Swiftmend and direct recovery
Swiftmend heals a target with an active Rejuvenation or Regrowth for an amount equal to that spell's full periodic duration. Classic explicitly consumed an effect for a fixed 12 seconds of Rejuvenation or 18 seconds of Regrowth healing. Keep an eligible HoT on the player likely to need emergency recovery so Swiftmend is ready when their health drops, rather than spending the emergency's first GCD preparing them.
Classic Restoration used downranked Healing Touch for efficiency, or a Regrowth-focused build with Improved Regrowth and Nature's Grace. Forever keeps direct recovery alongside its new party HoT: Nature's Swiftness makes your next Nature spell instant, and Naturalist shortens Healing Touch. Keep those direct tools available for damage that cannot wait for HoT ticks. Improved Regrowth adds critical-effect chance to Regrowth, while Gift of Nature improves healing generally. A tank with Rejuvenation or Regrowth already ticking can receive Swiftmend immediately, while Healing Touch covers damage that continues afterward.
Sustain, Tranquility and damage windows
Reflection keeps part of your regeneration active while casting, Living Spirit adds Spirit, and Tranquil Spirit reduces Healing Touch and Tranquility costs. Improved Tranquility reduces both threat and cooldown, supporting more deliberate use of that channel. Choose a window where you can remain in place; an interrupted channel loses the healing you planned to deliver regardless of how efficient its full duration looked.
Naturalist also increases all damage you deal, while healing gear supplies one-third as much bonus damage. That gives a healing Druid more useful offensive casts during solo play and safe dungeon gaps. Keep those casts subordinate to your mana reserve and upcoming damage. Moonfire can keep dealing damage while you return to healing, including periodic crits. Insect Swarm can do the same if you invest in Balance: unlike Classic's Restoration talent, it now needs at least 16 points in Balance. Taking it alongside the 31-point Wild Growth leaves only four points elsewhere in a 51-point build. Use damage-over-time spells on enemies that will live through their ticks. For healing gear, keep HoT throughput and regeneration separate from the value of direct-heal crits.

Gear for the form doing the work
Unified hit and crit make hybrid itemization less fragmented. Nature's Majesty adds both spell and melee crit, while Nature's Reach adds hit to spells and attacks. That gives an off-role cast more support from shared stats, but a Cat still needs melee damage stats, a Bear needs survival, and a healer needs mana and healing throughput. Keep separate survival pieces for tank assignments.
New caster weapons grant spell damage and healing, so Balance and Restoration should inspect weapon upgrades throughout leveling. Healing gear's bonus damage also makes a healer's solo set useful without stripping out its healing purpose. For Feral, read the actual item's bonuses instead of assuming a familiar Classic item remains the automatic choice after the dungeon-loot rework.
Weapon skill remains in the game with smaller bonuses per item. That is not a reason to transfer a Warrior's weapon-skill priority directly to a shapeshifted Druid. Reductions to enemy dodge and parry help your melee attacks; healing sets instead need healing throughput and regeneration.
Druid races and useful cooldowns
Tauren Endurance adds 5% total health and 1% hit. The health is directly attractive for Bear, while unified hit also helps offensive spells and Cat attacks. War Stomp stuns nearby enemies for two seconds, and Plainsrunning rewards continued movement. Plan racial control around your current form and tank responsibility rather than assuming every ability can be pressed without disrupting your job.
Night Elf Elune's Light adds 10% critical chance for 15 seconds. Balance can pair that with a stationary casting window; Cat can use it outside a Berserk window already granting 100% crit to generators, rather than stacking both solely to improve those same attacks. Bleed damage still has its own periodic crit opportunities, so judge the cooldown against the whole damage window. Quickness adds 1% dodge and 2% run speed, making the race useful for both avoiding physical attacks and regaining position. Shadowmeld's immobile stealth serves a different purpose from damage uptime.
Skyborne are available as High Order for Alliance and Windshaper for Horde. Both have 1% melee, ranged and spellcasting haste plus increased damage to Elementals and a downward glide. High Order's Read Ley Line supports health and mana regeneration; Windshaper's Skysight adds movement speed through an Elemental Blessing. Your faction determines which of those two racial toolkits is available.
Party buffs and smaller raid assignments
Moonkin Aura and Leader of the Pack each give 3% party crit within 45 yards and are exclusive. Classic separated Moonkin's spell crit from Leader of the Pack's melee and ranged crit. In Forever, putting both Druids in the same party does not double the shared aura. Spread coverage where possible, then consider each player's actual tanking or damage role. A Bear covering crit for one party can free a Cat or Moonkin to support another.
Wild Growth gives Restoration another reason to care about party organization. Group players who take damage together when encounter positioning permits, and choose a heal target whose party can receive it. Players in another party need a separate healing response.
Smaller raids make a planned role change more valuable because fewer players are available to cover a death or add wave. Keep a tanking swap if you regularly handle adds, and agree when a damage Druid should stop attacking to help heal. Baseline Improved Mark of the Wild gives every build the improved shared buff without spending talent points.
Dungeons, movement and controlled pulls
Druid rewards planning the next few seconds. Balance wants room to spend Eclipse charges; Cat wants energy available when it reaches the next target; Bear wants rage before control is lost; Restoration wants HoTs on the players likely to need Swiftmend. Moving early often protects more output than finishing one additional cast or attack from a bad position.
Roots, stuns and charge utility remain useful because dungeon pulls still demand control. Overgrowth helps a Balance Druid hold more enemies, but uncontrolled cleave can undo that work. Pick the kill target, identify which enemy stays controlled and decide who stops the dangerous cast before pulling.
In the world, healing gear's damage contribution makes remaining Restoration practical, while Cat offers melee mobility and Balance combines ranged pressure with control. Shifting can solve a movement problem, but it still changes your available spells and costs mana. The new Furor preserves energy through off-role help rather than paying Classic's flat energy bonus for every Cat entry.

Druid questions
How does Eclipse work for Balance Druid in WoW Forever?
Wrath reduces the cast time of your next two Starfires. Eclipse stores up to four charges and lasts 15 seconds; Rank 1 gives a 0.17-second reduction. Wrath supplies the effect directly rather than requiring a crit. Plan stationary casting time to spend the effect, alongside Balance of Nature's reward for switching spell schools.
Does Feral Berserk halve Cat ability energy costs?
That is not its Forever effect. Berserk makes Mangle strike up to three targets, removes Mangle's cooldown and increases combo-point-generator critical chance by 100% for 15 seconds. It also clears fear and grants fear immunity. Cat receives energy support separately through King of the Jungle, which makes Tiger's Fury grant energy.
Does Restoration Druid get Wild Growth or Lifebloom?
The Restoration tree includes Wild Growth, healing its target and that target's party over seven seconds with stronger early healing. Gift of the Earthmother shortens its GCD alongside Rejuvenation and Swiftmend. Lifebloom and Living Seed are not part of this tree.
Do Moonkin Aura and Leader of the Pack stack?
No. Both provide 3% critical chance to nearby party members, and their descriptions explicitly make them exclusive. In smaller raids, separate the Druids into different parties when that improves coverage. A Bear can provide Leader of the Pack while tanking, so your raid does not need a Cat solely to fill that buff slot.
