WoW Forever Shaman Guide: Ele, Enhance, & Resto Changes
Enhancement gains proc-driven Lightning Bolt weaving, Elemental adds a Flame Shock–Lava Burst sequence, and Restoration uses Riptide to prepare stronger Chain Heal casts. Intellect conversions and shared hit and crit give Shaman's weapon attacks, spells and healing more gear in common.
What changes for Shaman?
Play Shaman for melee DPS with spell procs, a lightning-and-Fire caster, or a healer with strong group recovery. Classic Enhancement normally fought through weapon swings, Shocks and totems, using Stormstrike when talented and allowed by the raid's debuff plan; Lightning Bolt was not a regular part of that melee rotation. Maelstrom Weapon introduces bolt weaving, supported by Stormstrike's personal Nature bonus and Rage of the Farseer's attack and casting speed. Elemental adds Lava Burst to its lightning-centered damage, while Restoration gains an instant heal and HoT through Riptide. Shared hit and crit reduce gearing splits, healing gear's added damage helps with solo play, and Dwarf access brings Shaman to Alliance groups.

The biggest changes from Classic
- Intellect supports melee and spells
Mental Dexterity converts Intellect into AP, while Mental Quickness adds spell damage and healing from the same stat. Together with unified hit and crit, Enhancement has more reason to wear gear that supports the full character instead of treating every casting stat as wasted.
- Lava Burst rewards Flame Shock
Lava Burst deals 20% more damage when your Flame Shock is on the target. This is a damage bonus, not a guaranteed critical strike. Elemental gains a Fire-focused sequence that rewards maintaining the correct DoT while still making use of lightning talents.
- Riptide prepares Chain Heal
Riptide combines an instant heal with healing over 15 seconds and increases the effectiveness of Chain Heal casts directly on that target by 25%. Choose a useful first target near other injured players, rather than spending the new instant heal without considering the next cast.
Elemental Shaman
Ranged spell DPS
Classic Elemental centered on Lightning Bolt, with Chain Lightning limited by mana and supported by Clearcasting. Forever adds Flame Shock–Lava Burst, free lightning duplicates and more reliable pushback protection.
Build your talentsFlame Shock before Lava Burst
Lava Burst has a 2.5-second base cast and a ten-second cooldown. Your Flame Shock on the target increases its damage by 20%. Keep that relationship in mind when changing targets: a fresh enemy does not inherit the benefit from a Flame Shock left on the previous one. Do not cast a full setup into an enemy that will die before the follow-up lands.
Call of Flame improves Flame Shock, Lava Burst, Fire Nova and Fire Totems. Concussion instead names Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Earth Shock. Those are distinct investments, not interchangeable generic spell damage. On a durable target, Fire and Nature can both contribute; when an encounter limits one school, shift attention to the spells that still work rather than forcing a fixed sequence.
Lightning, clearcasting and crit
Lightning Bolt rank 7 has a 2.5-second baseline cast in Forever rather than Classic's three seconds; Chain Lightning rank 1 is two seconds rather than 2.5. Elemental Alacrity can shorten these further. Lightning Overload gives those spells a chance to produce a second similar spell at half damage, with no extra mana cost or threat from the duplicate. The original cast still generates threat.
Call of Thunder adds crit to Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning, while Elemental Fury improves the critical damage bonus of Fire, Frost and Nature spells plus Searing and Magma Totems. Elemental Focus retains Classic's chance-based Clearcasting after casting a Fire, Frost or Nature damage spell: the next damage spell is free, without requiring a crit. Convection reduces the costs of Shocks and the named direct casts, helping you sustain damage on longer fights.
Range, roots and cleave
Elemental Reach extends Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Fire Nova and Lava Burst, with a larger range increase for Flame Shock. Elemental Alacrity reduces cast times for Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst. Eye of the Storm reduces pushback on those casts directly; Classic's version first required you to take a melee or ranged critical strike to proc its protection.
Earthbound makes Earthbind Totem immobilize nearby enemies for five seconds when cast. Place it close enough to catch a loose enemy, then use the root to gain casting distance. Classic Fire Nova Totem had to survive its delay before exploding. Forever's Improved Fire Nova instead modifies the Fire Nova spell's damage and cooldown; avoid catching breakable control in its AoE.
Enhancement Shaman
Melee and spell DPS
Enhancement adds Lightning Bolt procs to a Classic melee style built around weapon swings, Shocks and totems. Intellect conversions support both weapon and spell damage, while Stormstrike and mana talents help sustain the new sequence.
Build your talentsStormstrike feeds your Nature damage
Stormstrike now strikes for normal weapon damage and increases Nature damage you deal to the target by 20% for 12 seconds, with an eight-second cooldown. Classic Stormstrike used a 20-second cooldown and increased the next two sources of Nature damage. The new personal, timed effect supports your own Earth Shocks and Lightning Bolts without other players consuming two shared charges.
Improved Stormstrike can grant mana regeneration while casting after you use it, and can reset its cooldown when you dodge or parry. The regeneration helps during sustained DPS; the defensive reset is useful while soloing or handling a loose enemy. Against a tanked boss, attack from behind rather than taking hits to seek resets.
Maelstrom and Rage of the Farseer
Maelstrom Weapon makes Lightning Bolt weaving a new part of Enhancement's melee play, not a faster version of its normal Classic rotation. Damaging melee attacks can reduce the cast time and mana cost of your next Lightning Bolt, stacking up to five times for 30 seconds. Rank 1 reduces each by 4% per stack; rank 5 reduces each by 20% per stack. At rank 5, five stacks make the next bolt instant and free, letting you spend the proc without stopping to hard-cast. The talent affects Lightning Bolt, not Chain Lightning or healing spells.
Rage of the Farseer increases your melee attack speed and spell casting speed by 30% for 25 seconds on a three-minute cooldown. Use it during sustained contact with the target: faster swings provide more opportunities to build Maelstrom, and casting speed helps bolts cast before full stacks. A five-stack bolt at rank 5 is already instant. This is a personal offensive cooldown, with no party haste or mana-restoration effect.
Flurry still requires a melee critical strike and speeds your next three swings. Thundering Strikes now improves all spells and attacks, while Elemental Devastation links offensive spell crits back to melee crit chance. Lightning Bolt can therefore contribute both direct damage and a melee crit buff without changing Flurry's trigger.
Weapons, imbues and threat
Stormstrike uses weapon damage, so compare a weapon's strike damage and sustained swings alongside its stats. Classic required a talent to equip two-handed axes and maces; that talent is absent from the Forever tree. Its removal alone establishes neither lost two-handed access nor dual wield.
Elemental Weapons improves your own Rockbiter, Windfury, Flametongue and Frostbrand imbues, not Windfury Totem. Spirit Weapons grants parry and reduces attack threat by 30% without Rockbiter, but increases all threat by 30% while Rockbiter is active. Check your imbue before group DPS: Rockbiter reverses the talent's threat benefit.
Parry and increased threat help when you are taking attacks, but do not establish Enhancement as a raid tank. Improved Ghost Wolf permits indoor use and reduces its cast time, helping you close gaps between targets.
Make Intellect and mana work
Ancestral Knowledge increases Intellect, Mental Dexterity turns it into AP, and Mental Quickness turns it into spell damage and healing. A hybrid item can improve melee damage, Lightning Bolt and emergency healing together. Compare those gains with the weapon damage and offensive stats you would give up.
Shamanistic Focus reduces the mana costs of Shock and Lightning Shield spells by 45%. Improved Stormstrike supplies regeneration while casting, and Maelstrom reduces Lightning Bolt's cost. Those savings leave more mana for damage, replacing totems or an emergency heal. If you need to interrupt the next cast, reserve mana for Earth Shock rather than spending it on another damage spell.
Restoration Shaman
Healer
Classic Restoration used Healing Wave for single targets, Chain Heal for clustered damage and Lesser Healing Wave for urgent healing. Riptide adds a repeatable instant heal and HoT, Water Shield returns mana from healing crits, and Healing Way no longer needs a target buff to build up.
Build your talentsRiptide chooses the first target
Riptide is instant, has a six-second cooldown and combines direct healing with a 15-second HoT. It also increases the effectiveness of your Chain Heal casts directly on that target by 25%. Use it while moving or to stabilize someone, then start Chain Heal there when nearby players also need healing. An isolated target can still need Riptide without being a useful Chain Heal starting point.
Chain Heal has no stated HoT-consumption effect here. Keep Riptide's ongoing healing in your triage plan; the separate change allowing damage-over-time crits does not establish healing-over-time crits.
Healing Wave without a ramp
Healing Way now directly increases Healing Wave's healing. Classic Healing Way used a chance to improve subsequent Healing Waves on the same target through a temporary buff. Your first Healing Wave on a newly injured player now benefits without building that old effect.
Improved Healing Wave shortens the cast, while Nature's Swiftness makes your next eligible Nature spell instant for an emergency. Ancestral Healing still rewards healing crits with an armor bonus, especially useful on a tank taking physical attacks. Use single-target heals when injured players are too spread out for Chain Heal.
Water Shield and recovery tools
Water Shield carries three globes. Being hit by a spell, melee or ranged attack, or getting a critical result from a healing spell, restores 2% of maximum mana and expends a globe. Only one globe activates every few seconds. The shield lasts ten minutes and has a 15-second cooldown, so track both remaining charges and when you can refresh it. Only one Elemental Shield can be active; Lightning Shield replaces Water Shield.
Mindfulness permits mana regeneration while casting, Tidal Focus lowers healing costs, and Totemic Focus lowers costs for totems and spells that summon or move them. Mana Tide Totem restores mana to group members within 30 yards over 12 seconds. Place it within reach of the intended recipients and use it early enough for them to spend the returned mana.

Shared hit, crit and hybrid weapons
Unified melee, ranged and spell hit improves both Enhancement's weapon attacks and offensive spells. Tidal Focus also adds hit for all spells and attacks, while Thundering Strikes adds broad crit. Attacks and spells retain their own hit requirements; healing does not need offensive hit.
Critting DoTs improve Flame Shock damage, alongside Elemental's Fire talents. Lava Burst receives its 20% bonus while your Flame Shock is present, regardless of whether a tick crits. Call of Thunder remains specific to Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning, and periodic crits do not by themselves establish additional talent proc interactions.
Compare Enhancement items across weapon damage, Nature follow-ups and mana. Mental Dexterity converts Intellect into AP, and Mental Quickness converts it into spell damage and healing. Stormstrike still needs a good melee weapon, and its Nature bonus does not improve Flame Shock's Fire damage.
Weapon skill retains its mechanics but supplies smaller bonuses per item. Compare an old skill item with the complete replacement, not just its skill bonus. New caster weapons with spell damage and healing give Elemental and Restoration more leveling rewards; Shaman must still use a weapon type it can equip, so caster swords are not an option.
Healing gear adds bonus damage equal to one-third of its healing bonus. Restoration can use that damage for Lightning Bolt and Shocks while questing without replacing every healing slot. It also helps with group damage during healing downtime, though those casts still cost mana and time. For a healing assignment, prioritize healing output and recovery over offensive hit; for melee, weapon quality and Enhancement talents still matter.
Dwarf Shaman and racial choices
Dwarf opens Shaman to the Alliance. Stoneform removes and grants immunity to bleeds, poisons and diseases while reducing physical damage taken, making it useful for a healer under melee pressure as well as an Enhancement player. Mace Specialization grants spell and ability crit while a mace is equipped, so a caster mace can activate the racial without requiring you to spend the fight swinging it. Big Game Hunter adds damage against Beasts.
Orc Blood Fury increases both AP and SP for 15 seconds, fitting Enhancement's mixed damage and Elemental's spell output. Axe Specialization grants spell and ability crit while wielding an axe, and Hardiness reduces stun duration. Tauren Endurance combines maximum health with hit, while War Stomp supplies close-range control that can buy time to reposition or begin a heal.
Troll Berserking increases attack and cast speed, making it useful across all three roles, with additional Beast damage and health recovery tools. Horde Skyborne combines passive melee, ranged and casting haste with movement utility and bonus damage to Elementals. Choose around the role and content you play most; a creature-specific bonus should not decide every encounter, and a racial weapon condition never overrides training restrictions.
Totems and group utility
Agree which Shaman covers each totem and where the party will stand. Dwarf Shaman gives Alliance groups their own access to the class; it does not remove faction grouping restrictions.
Guardian Totems strengthens Stoneskin and Windwall and reduces Grounding Totem's cooldown. Restorative Totems improves Mana Spring and Healing Stream. Elemental Weapons instead affects personal weapon imbues. Totemic Projection and Totemic Recall add totem-management tools, while Totemic Focus covers the mana cost of totems and spells that summon or move them.
In dungeons, Earthbound can root loose enemies, Riptide heals during movement, and Earth Shock interrupts dangerous casts. Purge removes enemy buffs. These actions compete with damage for mana and GCDs, so plan for the interrupt or control your pull needs.
Solo, Enhancement wants melee contact to build Maelstrom, Elemental wants room to cast, and Restoration can use the damage on its healing gear between heals. Hybrid stats reduce the gear swaps needed to alternate between attacking and recovering.

Shaman questions
Does Flame Shock make Lava Burst always crit in WoW Forever?
No. The Forever talent says Lava Burst deals 20% increased damage if your Flame Shock is on the target. It does not guarantee a critical strike. Maintain Flame Shock when the target will live long enough to reward the setup, but value crit through the actual crit stats and talents in your build.
What does Rage of the Farseer do for Enhancement?
It increases your melee attack speed and spell casting speed by 30% for 25 seconds, with a three-minute cooldown. That supports a sustained weapon-and-spell damage window. It is a personal cooldown, not a party haste effect, and its description does not restore mana or provide a defensive damage reduction.
Does Riptide get consumed by Chain Heal?
Riptide's Forever description gives an instant heal, a 15-second HoT and 25% increased effectiveness for your Chain Heal casts directly on that target. It does not state that Chain Heal consumes the HoT. Select the first target for both current damage and nearby injured allies, rather than applying a consumption rule from another version.
Can Alliance players make a Shaman in WoW Forever?
Yes. Dwarf Shaman is a new class-and-race combination, bringing Shaman to Alliance groups. Dwarf offers Stoneform for physical pressure and harmful effects, plus mace-equipped spell and ability crit. Faction grouping restrictions still apply: this gives Alliance its own Shaman rather than allowing Horde and Alliance players to raid together.
