Leatherworking brings something no class buff copies: rested experience.
Skill levels and materials below come from the beta build; they can still change before launch.
The camp chain
| Object | Leatherworking | Effect | Crafting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camp Tent | 20 | Raises nearby players' rested XP to 5% of a level | 5 light leather |
| Tanning Rack | 140 | Reagent creation plus the tent's effect | 5 medium leather, 3 fine thread, 2 simple wood |
| Sewing Machine | 300 | A station for recipes that require it, plus the tent's effect | Undeath Engine, 5 rugged leather, rune thread |
All three need a campfire nearby and share the one-hour camping cooldown. The Tanning Rack and Sewing Machine can replace a Camp Tent. Blizzard's recap says the Tanning Rack is required for more advanced Leatherworking recipes.
The rested experience tent
The Camp Tent sets your rested experience to 5% of a level — and does nothing if you're already above that. It's a top-up, not a replacement for logging out in an inn: use it when you have little or no rested XP left, before heading back out to quest. If you already have more than 5% banked, the tent adds nothing.
The Legacy tree pairs well here: Well Rested raises rested XP generation and the rested cap by up to 20%, which matters if you level alts.
Field crafting
The Tanning Rack allows the creation of certain Leatherworking reagents at camp, and the Sewing Machine serves recipes that require a station. Together with the tent, they're the reason a leatherworker can keep working away from town.
Your camp job
- 20: Camp Tent, when your rested XP is running low.
- 140: Tanning Rack for reagent work in the field.
- 300: Sewing Machine for station recipes.
- Each player contributes one object, and no class buff replaces the tent's effect.
