Fury Warrior BiS

Is Fury Warrior worth a raid spot?

One or two Fury Warriors are standard in competitive raid compositions. Fury scales exceptionally with raid armor reduction (Sunder Armor/Devastate, Faerie Fire, Improved Expose Armor), Blood Frenzy, Windfury Totem, and physical buffs; add a third only when melee uptime, weapon availability, and group composition support it.

Rotation priority

  1. Maintain Bloodthirst on its 6-second cooldown as your primary rage spender and damage engine.
  2. Use Whirlwind when ready (9-second cooldown with this build), without delaying Bloodthirst on a single target. Their different cooldowns do not form a fixed repeating BT→WW pair. On 2+ targets, Whirlwind takes priority.
  3. Queue Heroic Strike (/startattack + /cast Heroic Strike) on surplus rage to convert your next main-hand swing to yellow, removing the dual-wield miss penalty on off-hand swings; cancel the queue (/stopcasting) before the swing completes if rage would starve the next Bloodthirst or Whirlwind.
  4. In execute range (sub-20%), continue Bloodthirst and Whirlwind while spending surplus rage on Execute; do not blindly spam Execute if it starves core ability cooldowns.
  5. On 2+ valid targets in melee range, substitute Cleave for Heroic Strike and activate Sweeping Strikes before Whirlwind and Cleave.

Opener

Bloodrage Bloodthirst Whirlwind Death Wish Haste Potion
  1. Pre-cast assigned shout on your party and enter combat with pooled rage or cast Bloodrage right before pull if starting empty.
  2. Intercept or run in on pull; cast Bloodthirst on your first global cooldown in melee range to start its 6-second timer immediately.
  3. Cast Whirlwind on the second global cooldown.
  4. Queue Heroic Strike after your first main-hand swing lands, ensuring enough rage remains to cast your next Bloodthirst on cooldown.
  5. Activate Death Wish, racial cooldowns, on-use trinkets, and Haste Potion once tank threat is established, aligning with raid Bloodlust/Heroism.

Cooldowns

Death Wish

Primary 3-minute DPS cooldown (30-second duration); grants +20% physical damage and Fear immunity at the cost of +5% damage taken. Stack with Bloodlust, trinkets, and Haste Potion when tank threat is secure.

Recklessness

30-minute cooldown; guarantees melee critical hits for 15 seconds but increases damage taken by 20%. Use in Berserker Stance during stable burn windows with established tank threat and no lethal incoming mechanics.

Sweeping Strikes

30-second cooldown (21/40/0 build); causes your next 10 melee attacks to strike an additional nearby enemy. Activate on 2-target pulls immediately before Whirlwind and Cleave.

Stat caps

Special Attack Hit Cap

95 Hit Rating

All breakpoints vs Boss (73) with 0/3 Precision.

9% from gear (142 rating) without external hit support.

6% from gear (95 rating) with only Improved Faerie Fire (+3%) on target.

8% from gear (127 rating) with only Draenei Heroic Presence (+1%) in your group.

5% from gear (79 rating) with Improved Faerie Fire (+3%) on target and Draenei Heroic Presence (+1%) in your group.

The listed requirement caps this physical hit profile against the selected target level.

Expertise Cap (Behind Boss)

71 18 Expertise Skill (71 Rating)

6.5% boss dodge cap

The rear expertise cap removes boss dodge. Attacks from behind cannot be parried; weapon racials apply only with the listed weapon types.

Dual-Wield White Hit Cap

395 Hit Rating

All breakpoints vs Boss (73) with 0/3 Precision.

28% from gear (442 rating) without external hit support.

25% from gear (395 rating) with only Improved Faerie Fire (+3%) on target.

27% from gear (426 rating) with only Draenei Heroic Presence (+1%) in your group.

24% from gear (379 rating) with Improved Faerie Fire (+3%) on target and Draenei Heroic Presence (+1%) in your group.

Dual-wield auto-attacks use the white-swing miss table. Hit continues to help white swings, but hard-capping them is usually weaker than other throughput stats.

Gems and socket bonuses

Keep your meta active and meet the hit target appropriate to your build, then compare damage gems across the whole set. Socket colors are opportunities for useful bonuses, not instructions to match every slot.

Use epic cuts on gear you expect to keep. Listed budget cuts suit temporary items or a tighter budget; compare your server’s prices before upgrading.

Type Gem Use
Meta Relentless Earthstorm Diamond Use in a meta-socket helmet and keep at least two red, two yellow, and two blue gems counted across equipped gear. Hybrid gems count toward both of their colors.

Requires: At least 2 red, 2 yellow, and 2 blue gems.

Damage Bold Crimson Spinel

Budget: Bold Living Ruby

Strength is a strong starting point for spare sockets; compare against crit or hit where your full set benefits.
Hit correction Glinting Pyrestone

Budget: Glinting Noble Topaz

Adds hit while retaining agility. Useful when the full set needs more hit, including after a gear or talent swap.
More hit Rigid Lionseye

Budget: Rigid Dawnstone

Use for a real hit need; extra white-swing hit can help after specials are capped, but it competes with strength and crit.
Meta colors Sovereign Shadowsong Amethyst

Budget: Sovereign Nightseye

A purple hybrid supplies red and blue for the meta while retaining a useful damage stat.
Meta / bonus Inscribed Pyrestone

Budget: Inscribed Noble Topaz

A crit hybrid can complete meta colors or a useful socket bonus; compare the total with your normal damage gem.

When to match sockets

  • Any ordinary gem fits any non-meta socket. Matching every socket on an item activates its bonus; a mismatch keeps the gem’s own stats. Hybrid gems count as both colors for your meta, regardless of the socket they occupy.
  • Satisfy meta colors first, preferably in sockets with useful bonuses. A small bonus may not repay the damage stat you sacrifice to match it. For Relentless Earthstorm Diamond, two purple and two orange hybrids are one way to cover all three required colors.
  • A socket tradeoff
For a yellow socket with a +2 strength bonus, Bold Crimson Spinel adds 10 strength. Inscribed Pyrestone plus the bonus adds 7 strength. You trade 3 strength for 5 crit rating.

Assumes your meta is already active; before talents and buffs.

When to swap gems

  • If changing between a 21/40 build and a build with Precision, recalculate the special-attack target. Extra white-swing hit is a separate tradeoff from meeting that target.
  • For unavoidable damage or a mixed survival assignment: use a damage/stamina hybrid where the added health matters.
  • After replacing gear or changing gems, recheck your meta across the whole equipped set. A color that looked expendable may be keeping it active.

Reviewing your logs

DPS tier list

  • Review Bloodthirst and Whirlwind on-cooldown uptime relative to active encounter time, minimizing empty globals.
  • Check Heroic Strike queue efficiency and confirm queuing did not cause rage starvation on Bloodthirst or Whirlwind.
  • Review Flurry uptime alongside your crit chance, swing timing, and periods spent out of melee range.
  • Verify uptime of assigned Battle Shout or Commanding Shout on your party.
  • Inspect alignment of Death Wish, Recklessness, racial abilities, trinkets, and Haste Potions with Bloodlust windows.
  • Confirm 0% boss parries in damage logs, verifying you remained strictly behind the boss.

Tips and Common Mistakes

Practical tips

  • Use separate binds for Heroic Strike queueing (/startattack + /cast Heroic Strike) and canceling (/stopcasting). While queued, off-hand auto-attacks lose the dual-wield miss penalty but remain white swings that can glance. Cancel before the main-hand swing if spending its rage would delay Bloodthirst or Whirlwind.
  • If dual-wielding weapons of identical speed, run the desync macro (/cleartarget, /targetlasttarget, /startattack) once after engagement, verify a visible swing-timer offset between main-hand and off-hand swings, and do not repeat while weapons remain split. Unequal weapon speeds (e.g. 2.6–2.8 MH / 1.4–1.5 OH) naturally desynchronize in combat.
  • Pool rage before target swaps or movement mechanics; arrive at the new target with 60+ rage to instantly cast Bloodthirst and Whirlwind.
  • Attack from behind to prevent boss parries; bosses can still dodge attacks from behind. On bosses that parry-haste, attacking from the front can also increase tank damage.
  • On 2 or more targets, substitute Cleave for Heroic Strike and activate Sweeping Strikes before Whirlwind and Cleave.

Common mistakes

  • Treating one hit value as mandatory without using the computed special-attack target for Precision, Heroic Presence, and Improved Faerie Fire in your raid composition.
  • Hard-macroing Heroic Strike to Bloodthirst or Whirlwind without separate cancel controls, causing catastrophic rage starvation.
  • Mistaking Ravager Dog (+40 AP) for a hit-rating food (Spicy Hot Talbuk is the +20 Hit Rating food).
  • Attacking from the front, exposing swings to boss parries and causing tank parry-haste; the rear expertise target only removes dodge.
  • Using Recklessness during volatile threat or high incoming raid damage phases, dying to the +20% damage taken penalty.
  • Spamming Execute sub-20% while letting Bloodthirst and Whirlwind sit off cooldown.
