Rotation priority

The basic ratios mean Steady Shots : Auto Shots. Start with 1:1, then follow your swing timer as haste changes. Haste shortens ranged casts and swings, but your shot global cooldown stays at 1.5 seconds. Without Serpent's Swiftness, you often have more room for French fillers between haste buffs.

1:1 — start here

One special shot per Auto Shot, normally Steady Shot. Use Multi-Shot on cooldown in place of a Steady Shot, provided extra targets are safe to hit and mana allows.

Auto ShotSteady ShotAuto ShotMulti-Shot (when ready)

Start your special shot just after an Auto Shot. The example shows the Multi-Shot substitution; use Steady Shot while it is on cooldown. Let the next Auto Shot fire before casting again instead of squeezing in an extra Steady Shot.

1:2 — higher haste

When Autos outpace your global cooldown, let two Auto Shots through for each Steady Shot.

Auto ShotSteady ShotAuto ShotAuto ShotSteady Shot

The last Auto Shot starts the next cycle. Follow the timer, not a fixed macro: a haste buff does not automatically mean 1:2, and the rhythm changes again when it expires.

French rotation (5:5:1:1)

At lower haste, add Multi-Shot or Arcane Shot after a Steady Shot when your global cooldown is ready but another Steady Shot would delay the next Auto Shot.

Auto ShotSteady ShotMulti-ShotAuto ShotSteady Shot

The full 5:5:1:1 loop contains 5 Steady Shots, 5 Auto Shots, 1 Multi-Shot, and 1 Arcane Shot. The example above shows one part; Arcane Shot fills a later gap. Small, deliberate Auto Shot delays can be worthwhile. Follow your haste and swing timer rather than forcing the same loop through every buff.

Optional melee weaving

If the boss is safe to approach, stand behind it at the edge of shooting range. After a ranged cast finishes, step in for one ready melee swing, then step back out to resume shooting.

Practice example: Auto ShotSteady ShotAuto ShotSteady Shot → step in, melee hit, step out → repeat

Queue Raptor Strike when ready: it strengthens your next melee swing, has a 6-second cooldown, and does not use the global cooldown. Otherwise use a normal melee hit. This example only works when the melee swing and travel time fit; never wait in melee for a swing. Skip the weave if it costs shots or exposes you to cleaves. Rapid Fire speeds ranged attacks only, so watch both swing timers.

Diziet’s rotation diagrams show the timing in more detail. Their Phase 1 examples are not fixed haste thresholds for your current gear.

  1. Keep Auto Shot running and choose the rhythm that fits your current haste. Use Multi-Shot in place of a Steady Shot when it is ready and fits; only use it if extra targets are safe to hit. Arcane Shot can fill French gaps while stationary or give you a shot while moving.
  2. Keep Trueshot Aura active and your physical party in range. Save Silencing Shot for assigned casts on targets that can be silenced; it uses the normal global cooldown, so do not macro it into every shot.
  3. Press Kill Command promptly after a critical strike opens its 5-second window. It is off the global cooldown, costs 75 mana, and has a 5-second cooldown; your pet must be alive and able to hit the target.
  4. Stay in Aspect of the Hawk while mana allows. Cut extra Arcane Shot casts first if mana is tight, use mana consumables as needed, and recover in Aspect of the Viper before you run dry. Return to Hawk when you can sustain your shots.

Opener

Aspect of the Hawk Hunter's Mark Misdirection Auto Shot Steady Shot Kill Command Multi-Shot Rapid Fire
  1. Ensure Trueshot Aura and Aspect of the Hawk are active, apply Hunter's Mark and Misdirection if assigned, and send your pet when tank threat is established. Check pet happiness and Kibler's Bits before the pull. You can pre-cast Aimed Shot with the countdown if it will not pull early; otherwise open with Auto Shot.
  2. After your first Auto Shot, cast Steady Shot and settle into the rhythm for your current haste.
  3. Press Kill Command immediately on the first critical strike proc.
  4. Use Multi-Shot when it fits your shot rhythm and nearby targets are safe to hit; do not force it ahead of a ready Auto Shot just to match an opener script.
  5. Use Rapid Fire, racials, on-use trinkets, and Haste Potion in the planned burn window with stable threat. Stack with raid-wide Bloodlust when practical, but do not hold cooldowns so long that you lose a use. Use your first potion after combat starts; the shared 2-minute cooldown begins at use. Recheck your shot rhythm as haste buffs activate.
  6. Use Feign Death proactively before approaching the tank's threat ceiling.

Cooldowns

Rapid Fire

+40% ranged attack speed for 15 seconds; 3-minute cooldown with the listed Rapid Killing talents. Stack with raid-wide Bloodlust when practical without losing a use. Let extra Auto Shots through when they outpace your global cooldown, then adjust again when the buff ends. It does not speed up melee swings.

Trueshot Aura

Party-local aura granting +125 ranged and melee Attack Power within 45 yards; position consistently near assigned physical group members.

Silencing Shot

Instant physical shot on the normal 1.5-second GCD (20-second cooldown, 3-second silence); save for assigned silences on targets that are not silence-immune and do not burn carelessly for filler damage.

Misdirection

Redirects threat from your next 3 attacks to the tank; 2-minute cooldown and a 30-second window to use the charges. Coordinate it for the pull or assigned add pickups.

Feign Death

Drops your threat on a 30-second cooldown. Use it before you pull aggro, especially during a burst window.

Gems and socket bonuses

Keep your meta active and meet the hit target appropriate to your build, then compare damage gems across the whole set. Socket colors are opportunities for useful bonuses, not instructions to match every slot.

Use epic cuts on gear you expect to keep. Listed budget cuts suit temporary items or a tighter budget; compare your server’s prices before upgrading.

Type Gem Use
Meta Relentless Earthstorm Diamond Use in a meta-socket helmet and keep at least two red, two yellow, and two blue gems counted across equipped gear. Hybrid gems count toward both of their colors.

Requires: At least 2 red, 2 yellow, and 2 blue gems.

Damage Delicate Crimson Spinel

Budget: Delicate Living Ruby

Agility is a flexible damage choice once your hit needs and meta colors are covered.
Hit correction Glinting Pyrestone

Budget: Glinting Noble Topaz

Use to reach the ranged-hit target for your talents and reliable group buffs; it still provides agility.
More hit Rigid Lionseye

Budget: Rigid Dawnstone

A larger ranged-hit correction when you cannot cover the gap with hybrids. Extra hit past the ranged cap does not improve shots.
Meta colors Shifting Shadowsong Amethyst

Budget: Shifting Nightseye

A purple hybrid supplies red and blue for the meta while retaining a useful damage stat.
Meta / bonus Jagged Seaspray Emerald

Budget: Jagged Talasite

A crit hybrid can complete meta colors or a useful socket bonus; compare the total with your normal damage gem.

When to match sockets

  • Any ordinary gem fits any non-meta socket. Matching every socket on an item activates its bonus; a mismatch keeps the gem’s own stats. Hybrid gems count as both colors for your meta, regardless of the socket they occupy.
  • Satisfy meta colors first, preferably in sockets with useful bonuses. A small bonus may not repay the damage stat you sacrifice to match it. For Relentless Earthstorm Diamond, two purple and two orange hybrids are one way to cover all three required colors. Two Jagged Seaspray Emerald also cover both yellow and blue requirements when the rest of the gems supply red.
  • A socket tradeoff
For a yellow socket with a +2 agility bonus, Delicate Crimson Spinel adds 10 agility. Glinting Pyrestone plus the bonus adds 7 agility. You trade 3 agility for 5 hit rating.

Assumes your meta is already active; before talents and buffs.

When to swap gems

  • After changing hit gear or group support: replace excess hit with damage gems once your ranged-hit target is covered.
  • For unavoidable damage or a mixed survival assignment: use a damage/stamina hybrid where the added health matters.
  • After replacing gear or changing gems, recheck your meta across the whole equipped set. A color that looked expendable may be keeping it active.

Reviewing your logs

DPS tier list

  • Check Trueshot Aura coverage on your party and whether assigned Silencing Shot interrupts landed. Damage-only silence casts still spend a global cooldown.
  • Review Auto Shot gaps around movement, target changes, and haste buffs. Separate small, planned French delays from long gaps caused by late casts or standing out of shooting range.
  • Compare Steady Shot and Auto Shot counts within each haste window, not just across the whole fight. Higher haste can mean fewer Steady Shots per Auto Shot; a fixed fight-wide ratio is not a performance target.
  • Check Kill Command use against critical-strike opportunities and pet time on target. Investigate missed windows and avoidable pet deaths.
  • Check pet time attacking and avoidable downtime rather than aiming for a fixed share of your damage. Verify Happy state and Kibler's Bits in-game before the pull.
  • Check cooldown use count and overlap with raid-wide Bloodlust. Look for missed uses from excessive holding, and for long Aspect of the Viper periods caused by mana-heavy fillers.
  • If weaving, compare melee hits gained with ranged downtime on similar pulls. Drop weaves that repeatedly cost shots or put you in danger.

Tips and Common Mistakes

Practical tips

  • Stay within 45 yards of your assigned physical party members for Trueshot Aura. Save Silencing Shot for useful interrupts instead of treating it as a free damage button.
  • Use a swing timer that shows your ranged swing, cast time, and global cooldown. If you melee weave, track the melee swing separately and practise getting back into shooting range.
  • Keep your pet on Passive in raids, with separate /petattack and /petfollow binds. Recall it from lethal mechanics and send it back promptly.
  • Keep a Steam Tonk Controller handy: using it instantly dismisses your pet, even in combat. Use it before a badly positioned or low-health pet dies. Let the tonk appear, cancel its control aura, then use Call Pet to bring your pet back at full health beside you. Send it back in when safe. Avoid spamming the summon and cancel together, and check your remaining charges before a raid.
  • Feed ordinary pet food after summoning or death to maintain the Happy state (125% damage modifier), and separately buff the pet with Kibler's Bits (+20 Strength, +20 Spirit) and pet scrolls.
  • Macro Kill Command into frequently used shots or use a separate bind. It can fire during your ranged rotation without spending a global cooldown.
  • Choose your full gear set for the way you actually play. A melee-weaving setup depends on melee damage and safe time on the boss; compare it with a ranged-only setup in the sim before swapping weapons.
  • Adamantite Weightstone works on blunt weapons and its crit benefits ranged attacks; Adamantite Sharpening Stone works on blades and its crit is melee-only. Both add weapon damage, but neither adds that damage to Steady Shot. A main-hand stone conflicts with Windfury Totem, so coordinate if you weave.

Common mistakes

  • Treating Silencing Shot as an off-GCD ability and casting it on cooldown, causing GCD lockouts that delay Steady Shot and clip Auto Shot.
  • Forcing a fixed 1:1 macro through every haste state, or squeezing extra Steady Shots in front of ready Auto Shots.
  • Positioning out of range of party members and dropping Trueshot Aura (+125 AP) coverage.
  • Confusing Kibler's Bits (+20 Str/+20 Spi buff) with pet feeding / Happy state (125% damage multiplier).
  • Overcapping hit rating by ignoring the computed target for the active Improved Faerie Fire and Heroic Presence state.
  • Delaying your first potion; use the first potion after combat starts since the standard shared 2-minute cooldown starts at use.
  • Adding French fillers without watching mana, or forcing melee weaves when travel time and boss mechanics cost more than the extra hit.
